Diamond engagement ring

Diamond engagement ring, originally uploaded by rmrayner.

A little careworn this one....back for a service, this ring was made about eight years ago.

1.30ct brilliant cut diamond with baguette barrels with little brilliants in the ends... a complicated ring that I needed to re-photograph as the original snap was when I was learning how to do this!

Peridot and Citrine Cocktail Ring

Another variation on our perennial Cocktail Collection rings...the one where you decide what the mix of colours in your cocktail is going to be.

Oval Citrine and two peridots claw set in 18ct white gold. Initially the ring was set with a Madera Citrine (much darker) but we didn't really like it as the colours were all combined to be a little muddy... so we swapped it for a golden citrine which goes much better with the uprated peridots.

Art Deco style emerald cut diamond with step-down baguette diamonds engagement ring is set in platinum.

Central emerald cut diamond 0.84ct H colour, VS1 Clarity. Side baguette diamonds 0.12ct each.

A very standard ring for us to make... but popular for a reason... everyone likes these! This is on the smaller end of the scale of what we usually make... but it still works well.

Tanzanite & Diamond Engagement Ring

Oval Tanzanite set with diamond cluster engagement ring recently finished for a Rumour Jewellery customer and photographed for the Rumour portfolio and website.

Simple conservative design with the twist of the modern Tanzanite. As you might know these stones are only found in Tanzania and will one day have run out!

Cushion Cut Ceylon Sapphire Engagement Ring

One of the all time most popular styles we make at Rumour. Four claw set cushion cut sapphire with a pair of 0.50ct brilliant cut diamond side stones in matching settings. Set in platinum.

Similar to one of our other cushion cut sapphire designs, but, as ever, subtely different. This ring just came back for a tune-up and clean. My photography has got a lot better since we made it a few years ago so a good opportunity to re-take it.

SpRING is Sprung! A guide to getting engaged.

After the long winter of gloomy weather and gloomier economic downturn a step-change is detectable in the air. It's nearly Easter, the weather is warming up so it must be 'Engagement Season' when a young man's fancy turns to... settling down! This year, more than any other, everyone needs a reason to celebrate and one of the best celebrations around is a wedding day.

Here's a short guide to Stage 1.

The first thing to get right is to very carefully choose the correct arrangements for popping the question . Too many people don't plan it out properly and end up "bottling it" (British) or "choking" (North American). If you've planned it all out in advance with your engagement ring, venue and proposal less can go wrong. This is an occasion to be enjoyed not feared!

Bespoke Engagement Rings | Photo 02
Bespoke jewellery allows the proposer to find exactly the right design. It's important to get the right advice when choosing the design. If in doubt ask an expert, and enlist the help of a friend if required. Remember that the ring is going to be worn forever so it needs to be practical and of a timeless design. Spend what you are comfortable with.... and then a bit more so you are really happy with it! Why have a Vauxhall if you really wanted a Mercedes?

The next stage is to smuggle the engagement ring to your preferred location. If this means travelling abroad (Lake Como is popular this time of year) remember to put the ring and box into your hand luggage and not your pocket; when you invariably get searched your plans will be in ruins.

Now make that proposal at the specific moment you have decided on. If you need another person to set things up for you make sure that you keep it simple for them. Especially if you don't speak the same language.

Finally do not come back home with the ring still in the box. Failure is not an option... you've spent too much money and everyone needs a party to go to!

A very traditional ring, the type we don't have much demand for (everyone wants something different at the moment!)... but we do love to make them when we are asked to!
